Blogging Stats One Year In
How my first year (Feb ’17 to Feb ’18) shaped up:
I published 84 posts thus far, with 1,264 comments (you can assume 1/2 are mine). I’d hoped to produce two articles per week but lost some mojo along the way and didn’t make that all year. Now I’m committed to one per week with an additional one thrown in as often as possible.
I’m just recently passed the 50K pageview mark. This was partly due to not having Google Analytics correct for many months and partly because of a lack of great content as I figured things out. That number may seem small or significant depending on your perspective, but I’m thrilled with what I was able to do this year and with the views I’ve received thus far.
Pageviews in the last three months are averaging over 10k per month. Thanks to a few features on other sites, the blog passed the 10k per month pageview mark twice (Dec ’17 & Feb ’18), many, many thanks to them. (Lesson for those thinking about quitting before one year in.)
From what I’ve read, posting more frequently and focusing on SEO and Pinterest should help drive more page views. And time. It takes time. Others are finding success with Reddit and Quora. I’m not sure what that kind of traffic does to pages per session, duration of a session, and bounce rate though.
I’m working on creating better pins for Pinterest and doing a better job of using Tailwind. I’ve not applied to any large group boards yet, but I’m seeing a slight increase in traffic just pinning a bit more and adding content to the tribes in Tailwind.
Top Referral Traffic Sources (Thank you!)
I’ve devoted my time to Twitter, and it shows. I’ll focus efforts on the other platforms this year.
Twitter – Just shy of 4K followers
Facebook – 147 followers
Instagram – 450 followers
Pinterest – 262 followers
Blog – 150+
