Have you ever embarked on a big new project with only piecemeal blueprints to follow?
You start with a grand idea. Have a vague notion of where you want to take it, yet aren’t quite sure how to make it a reality.
You know information is out there to help. But you can’t seem to find it all in one place. So you read some here, learn some from over there, and gather further details as you go.
You spend lots of time doing research.
Sometimes you follow the advice of others you thought was helpful only to realize later it was a bit incomplete or won’t work for you.

This is how it can be when you first hear about F.I.R.E. – Financial Independence Retire Early. Or at least it used to be when I was introduced to it several years ago.
Now there are several books on the subject that can provide almost all you need to know about achieving financial freedom and retiring early.
But today I want to tell you about the newest one hitting the shelf, The F.I.R.E. Planner by Michael Quan, as it’s a bit different from the rest.
The F.I.R.E. Planner: A Step-by-Step Workbook to Reach Your Full Financial Potential
The Financial Independence Retire Early Planner
The F.I.R.E Planner is an interactive guide to achieving financial independence and retiring early – or becoming retirement eligible as Michael puts it.
The book consists of 6 chapters, beginning with an introduction to FIRE and ending with post-FIRE life.
In between, you’ll find topics including the FIRE mindset, calculating your FIRE numbers, ways to achieve FIRE, designing your FIRE plan, reaching your goals, and celebrating your success.
What sets this book apart from others is the easy-to-follow illustrations and thorough worksheets provided throughout the book.
You’ll also find easy-to-understand examples and inspiring, real-life success stories of others who’ve achieved FIRE in slightly different ways.
This makes it a perfect book for introducing the FIRE concepts to anyone and helping those who are just starting on the path to financial independence clarify their goals and plan their journey.
The main goal of the book has always been to make FIRE accessible to anyone. Additionally, I wanted this book to provoke further thought for those already on the FI journey.
Michael Quan
Michael himself retired early in 2013 at the age of 36.
Shortly thereafter, he created his blog Financially Alert, to help others find the knowledge, strategies, and motivation needed to fuel their own journey to financial freedom.
I stumbled across Financially Alert sometime in 2015 and have been a fan ever since.
Now I’m a big fan of The F.I.R.E. Planner workbook too.
It may not be the only resource you’ll need or use on your FI journey but it’s one you’ll want by your side.
The easy-to-read, engaging content will help you plan and achieve your goals for financial independence and retiring early (or at least retirement eligibility!).
The book can also help you introduce others to the FIRE concept in an informative, no-pressure way 😉.
I wish I had it when I began our FIRE journey. Now, I look forward to sharing my copy with others. (Yes, I ordered my own copy!)

I don’t think F.I.R.E is right for everything, but it can inspire others to start saving for the future now.
